[New recording] The OPRL and Musique en Wallonie publish the third and final part of Eugène Ysaÿe's complete concertante works
Better known as a violinist than as a composer, Eugène Ysaÿe nonetheless left a substantial symphonic oeuvre (almost exclusively concertante). After the albums ‘Harmonies du soir’ (2014) and ‘Neiges d'antan’ (2016), here is ‘Poème nocturne’, the latest instalment in this complete series that Musique en Wallonie and the OPRL are offering with the help of four Franco-Belgian soloists. It will be released on 10 January.
In partnership with Musique en Wallonie, the OPRL is adding to the recording heritage of Ysaÿe's concertante works, with the participation of four soloists from the Franco-Belgian landscape: violinists George Tudorache (concertmeister of the OPRL) and Svetlin Roussev, cellist Henri Demarquette and soprano Sarah Defrise, under the direction of conductor Pablo González.
Often better known as a violinist than as a composer, Eugène Ysaÿe (1858-1931) nevertheless created, through his works, a fundamentally new and original genre, distinguished by his science of writing and his great harmonic richness. This album brings together works that, with the exception of the Saltarelle carnavalesque, have never been recorded in their orchestral version. It thus invites you on an unprecedented journey through the composer's world of sound, from his earliest works to his latest compositions for soloist(s) and orchestra. The rich menu includes the Poème nocturne op. 29, the Petit Poème romantique, the Saltarelle carnavalesque, the Variations on a theme by Paganini, the Paraphrase on a theme by Mendelssohn and the Fantaisie op. 32.
