Gershwin, Concerto pour piano

A beloved star of the French piano firmament, Hélène Grimaud also has a special connection with the United States and American music. For this concert she presents emblematic works such as Gershwin's Piano Concerto (1925), imbued with the spirit of jazz, of which she has made a superb recording. Also composed in the United States, in 1943, Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra gives each family of instruments the opportunity to shine through solos of breathtaking virtuosity. The same virtuosity is to be found in Esa-Pekka Salonen's Helix (2005), a study in acceleration in which the musical motifs unfold in spirals, like a helix.
