Lukas Sternath
“Here is an intensely contemplative young man — Lukas Sternath is the rising star in the world of pianists.” HAMBURGER ABENDBLATT
Viennese pianist Lukas Sternath was First Prize winner of the ARD Competition in Munich in 2022 and chosen Rising Star of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) in 2024-2025. In this concert he explores the prodigious structure of Schubert's penultimate sonata, the spiritual depth of Liszt’s Funérailles (Funerals), written in honour of three martyrs of the Hungarian revolution (1849), and the rich compositional style of Prokofiev’s Eighth Sonata (1943), the last of his three “War” sonatas. Exceptionally dense, this work was described by Sviatoslav Richter as “a tree bending under the weight of its fruit.”
