TCHAIKOVSKY’S PATHÉTIQUE
Lionel Bringuier takes on the prodigious Symphonie Pathétique (1893), in which Tchaikovsky shares his eternal quest for happiness, his delicate sentimentality and also his deep suffering.. It is this suffering that gave him such an overwhelming sensitivity and such a unique talent for expressing the deepest of emotions so accurately through music. This absolute pinnacle of music history was aptly given the subtitle “Pathétique” (full of Pathos) by the composer's brother, Modest, who was aware of the emotional intensity that ran through these pages. The OPRL's Music Director will be sure to explore and explain his understanding of this music and its extreme emotions during the now traditional post-concert talk.
