TRANSFIGURED NIGHT
In 1899, at the age of 25, Schoenberg composed Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night), a string sextet inspired by a poem about a couple's nocturnal walk by the light of the moon. The woman confesses to the man that she is expecting a child that is not his, but he forgives her and promises to raise the child as his own. Schoenberg approved the version for piano trio that his pupil Eduard Steuermann wrote in 1932. Presented by Guy Lemaire, President of the Amis de l’Orchestre, this concert also includes a projection on screen with illustrations by Audrey Gallez, video interviews with the composer and surtitles to follow Richard Dehmel's poem.
