The Carnival of the Animals in Charleroi

Description

After having captivated the Philharmonic Hall of Liège for 20 performances, and the Royal Circus of Brussels, Le Carnaval des Animaux returns this time to Charleroi. Combining circus arts, soloists from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège, video projections, lighting, Luc Petit tackles a monument of classical music: The Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saëns, a formidable bestiary composed in 1886 to enhance the “Mardi Gras” of a cellist friend. The colorful fauna that Saint-Saëns sets to music – the swan, the elephant, the fish in the aquarium – augmented by a few new animals with a flamboyant and cinematic style. The actor Bruno Coppens deployed all his creativity to connect the different adventures of this zoological fantasy just as he reflected on the difficult condition of animals today and the way to save them. This extraordinary show welcomes more than thirty artists and musicians, as well as 3 presenters from RTL TVI: Jean-Michel Zecca, Luc Gilson and Sandrine Dans, who lent their voices to the characters of the wolf, the cat and even Camille Saint-Saëns.
