La voix humaine
“Anne-Catherine Gillet imbodies the scorned woman with incredible depth and intensity” ". CLASSIC TOULOUSE
Written in 1958 to a text by Jean Cocteau, Poulenc's La voix humaine is a tragic opera for soprano and orchestra in one act, lasting around forty minutes. This long, deeply moving monologue, is the one-sided telephone call of a woman abandoned by her lover. It is performed by Belgian soprano Anne-Catherine Gillet, accompanied on the organ (derived from Poulenc's piano version) by Yoann Tardivel, in a sober setting, designed for this concert. The opera will be preceded by the prelude to Fauré's Pelléas et Mélisande and by Jehan Alain's Trois danses (Three dances) for organ: Joies (joys), Deuils (mournings) and Luttes (struggles).
