AN ORGAN CARNIVAL
Korean organist Shin-Young Lee has transcribed Saint-Saëns's famous Carnival of the Animals for the organ. Conceived in 1886 for a private performance on Shrove Tuesday, this "great zoological fantasy" takes the form of a series of pastiches depicting a wide variety of animals: lions, hens and roosters, horses, tortoises, elephants, kangaroos, fish, donkeys, cuckoos, birds, swans, etc. On this occasion, it is brought to life through the sparkling, poetic texts of Élodie Fondacci, narrated by actress and RTBF journalist Caroline Veyt. The performance is completed by excerpts from Tchaikovsky's delightful The Nutcracker and Borodin's spectacular Polovtsian Dances.
