Nikolay Lugansky
« The Russian pianist explores the mature Wagner. A virtuoso celebration, but more than that, faithful to the music and grandiose. » (La Libre)
A legendary artist who has been loyal to the OPRL for several years, Nikolay Lugansky temporarily abandons 'his' Rachmaninov for a stroll through romantic Europe in the 19th century. The Russian pianist plays a few pages of Mendelssohn's eight volumes of Songs without words, a compendium of songs in their purest state; he highlights the melancholy of Chopin's subtle harmonies; he reminds us that Liszt transcribed Wagner to make his work better known and to let the piano realise his rich orchestral structures. It is this same approach that Lugansky shares his own arrangements of Götterdämmerung, which are nothing short of grandiose!
