Greece: Ntoumos Rebetiko Orchestra
Séries
Description
Born in the early 1920s, following the exodus of Greeks driven out of Asia Minor, rebetiko is the soul of Greek identity and has been recognised as "intangible cultural heritage" by UNESCO since 2017. It is the music par excellence of minorities and the marginalised, and has is origins in the oriental rhythms brought back by Greek emigrants from Türkiye. Today, the roots of rebetiko are revisited by Belgian-Greek Dominic Ntoumos, who melds his trumpet with traditional instruments such as the bouzouki and baglama, to share the best-known songs of Vamvakaris, Tsitsanis and many others.
