OPRL+ Dance : Górecki, Sorrowful songs
One of the world’s best-known contemporary works, Górecki's Third Symphony (1976) was at odds with the complex avant-garde style of the time. Its slow, ethereal movements form a captivating triptych that enthralled a whole generation of New Age youth and remains as relevant today as it ever was. Soprano Sarah Defrise will replace the late Jodie Devos who wanted to embody this project, tailor-made for her. His memory will nevertheless run through the Plaintive Songs of this hymn to love (that of a mother for her son and of an adolescent for the Virgin Mary), a constant back and forth between shadow and light, which at the end opens with hope. The choreography by the master of urban dance, Kader Attou, performed by the Accrorap company, who will be taking over the Manège at the Caserne Fonck, is striking for its emotional power and its lust for life.
